Big brother's ears just got a little sharper
William R. McGrath of Monrovia, California is the name listed on a patent that will give people the power to eavesdrop on conversations right through walls. The basic idea is this: when people are speaking in a room, every loose material in the room vibrates due to the acoustic force of the sound. By beaming radio waves through the walls and onto these light materials, the vibrations can be monitored and digitally decoded to give the eavesdropper a "transmission" of the sound.
The idea that someone will be able to point a beam into my home and hear my most intimate conversations is downright frightening. But let me give fair warning to anyone out there who's planning on using this technology against me: I tell a lot of bad jokes. Really bad jokes.
For the US patent on this device:

Government eavesdropping doesn't bother you? Do you think they should be able to listen in on conversations between the accused and their attorneys?
