Survivor Tocantins: Week 3 "Weak Now or Weak Always?"

This week, Erinn found herself on Coach's "Hit List of Justice," which is written down in Coach's head and which ranks everyone based on their level of perfection. Since Coach is perfectly meritorious, he'll be last to go, of course. Erinn joins Sierra and Debra on the list, which is starting to look pretty long, and pretty gender biased.

Ordinarily, I would worry about Coach overstepping his bounds, but luckily, he's recruited Tyson as his assistant coach, a circumstance that Tyson took great delight in making fun of.

The memorable parts of this episode were actually all about Coach, which is interesting given that no one tried to vote him out. After his Timbira tribe lost the reward challenge (in which blindfolded pairs of contestants followed the direction of their team caller to navigate a maze and complete a set of tasks), he howled in primal anguish, which he then pointed out proved how awesome he is. I'm not sure why he didn't howl like that last week, when Probst pointed out that he was really underperforming.

Coach talked a lot about how he was unable to share the same space as people who are inferior to him, which I guess explains why he spends so much time kayaking on the vast, lonely stretches of ocean. He must have some sort of system for scaring away the girly dolphins so that he can be alone with the cool, manly sharks.

Before this episode, I was worried that Coach was going to steamroll the competition by dint of his admittedly forceful personality, but it became clear during tribal council that the other members of the tribe have all bonded socially in a way that has left Coach out in the cold. I look for some real erratic behavior from him over the next couple of weeks while he tries to assert himself as the tribe leader, despite the wishes of the tribe.

In non-Coach news: Jerry got sick from eating the beans, which got him booted. Taj and Brendan advanced their secret Exile Island alliance, and have planned a secret cross-tribal foursome. Brendan very cleverly found an immunity idol at his camp, which was hidden under the grass skirt of the treemail marker. Jalapao has won three challenges in a row, which makes them look dominant.

The Pool:

Jerry's ouster was completely unexpected (and really, who could predict an adverse reaction to bush beans?), and lots of us lost major points after picking him to go far. In general, the point-rich got richer, while the point-poor got poorer...

1st: Carl: 109 (-1 +6)
2nd: Mike 96 (-6 +6)
3rd: Paul 93 (-6 +0)
4th: Stats 91 (-5 +1)
5th: Matt 89 (-7 +6)
6th: Mom 84 (-12 +6)
7th: Dawn 83 (-11 +6)
8th: Kim 81 (-12 +0)
9th: Brian 68 (-9 +0)

Carl built on the lead he established last week, and now is the clear pool leader. He was one of the only pool members to predict an early boot for Jerry, and now he's reaping the rewards. Paul and Mike swapped place in second and third, while the Stats are starting to gain some ground. The big losers were Kim and Brian, both of whom lost significant points without getting the Immunity Pick right to buffer the loss.

Please send me your IP for next week's episode: Jalapao or Timbira!

Good luck, everyone!
