DWTS: Week 3 Performance Results

Performance Night

The big news of the night was the injury of Misty. While practicing, she apparently snapped her tendon, which means that she won't be dancing (or playing volleyball) any time soon. They were purposefully vague concerning how this might impact the structure of the show. This probably means that tonight they'll count Misty's ouster as the elimination, which seems only fair.

However, they have been floating rumors in the press that she might be replaced by Kim Kardashian (or someone else), who would get a second shot as the most recently bounced contestant. Since there's some question, Ill go on record now:

If the the show counts Misty's injury as the elimination for the week, then I'll run the pool like normal, with Misty out.

If the show replaces her, then it's essentially like they're pretending she was never on the show. If that happens, I'll delete her from everyone's picks with no penalties, and condense the picks to eliminate her empty spot. If Kim is the replacement, your Kim pick will stand, and I'll count her second elimination as well as the first for scoring purposes.

Best Performance was tough to pick. Brooke got the top score, and I'm not saying she didn't deserve it. But for me, Warren had the best performance. Something about his huge, ungainly frame gliding across the dance floor with his fragile-looking partner, Kym, is just mesmerizing. Last week, his aggressive Paso Doble was fantastic, and this week, he managed to add some flavor to the Viennese Waltz without violating the spirit of the dance. It's like watching a frog sing-- he doesn't have to do it that well for it to be amazing.

Worst Outfit goes to Toni, who tried to make her Viennese Waltz look like an artsy fartsy music video. She dressed up like Marie Antoinette, and let's just say she's not one of the few people who can pull that look off. The judges didn't seem to appreciate her look or her routine.

Worst Insult was another one of those offhanded comments that cuts because it wasn't intended as an insult. During their clips package, Cody and his partner, Lacey, went to a retirement home to perform their waltz for the seniors in attendance. On their way out, Lacey announced to the crowd that Cloris would probably be coming here after the show (and Cloris's frequent befuddlement is starting to seem like less of an act all the time).

Here are the scores:

Brooke: 28 (+2, received the first 10 of the season!)
Warren: 25 (+1)
Maurice: 24 (+5 = most improved)
Lance: 22 (+2)
Toni: 22 (-1, the only person whose score dropped this week)
Cody: 21 (no change)
Susan: 21 (no change)
Rocco: 20 (+ 4)
Cloris: 16 (+1)
Misty: na

Clearly, Rocco and Cloris are in trouble. They're consistently scoring at the bottom of the pack. Whichever of them is garnering the fewest audience votes will probably get the boot. Their best chance to live and dance another week is a Misty default elimination.

The Standings

1st: Experts
1060 (+5)
2nd: Mike 1047 (+15)
3rd: Kim 1006 (+5)
4th: Lisa 984 (+15)
5th: Rick 981 (+15)
5th: Matt 981 (+15)
7th: Dawn 973 (+15)
8th: Carl 938 (+5)
9th: Paul 928 (+5)

The smart money was on Brooke/Cloris for TS/BS, and this week at least, the smart money was right. Everyone except for Carl, Kim, and Paul got both TS and BS correct. This means everyone got 5 points for Cloris, while five of us got an additional 10 points for predicting Brooke. The resulted in no changes in the standings-- we'll see what happens after tonight's elimination.

Good luck, everyone!
