DWTS Week 3 Elimination Results

The powers that be at ABC decided not to eliminate anyone else this week.

Since Misty was the only star eliminated from the program this week, I'm counting her as the elimination for the pool.

However, the show wants to make this week's performances count for something, and so they're bundling this week's scores with next week's scores to decide next week's elimination. Further, they announced that, had Misty not been injured, Rocco would have been the one to go (another testament to the existence of the Cloris audience vote).

I toyed with the idea of running a "half-elimination" for Rocco this week, but decided against it. He wasn't actually eliminated from the show, even if that's only because of a freak accident. And they're making his score from this week count towards next week, so his poor showing this week will have some impact on our scoring.

Hopefully, you all agree. If not, post whatever you think would be a more fair solution in the comments, and everyone can vote on it or something.

Tonight's episode featured the Rockettes, among others notables, doing one of their famous precision-choreographed musical numbers. Kim and I were talking about how weird it is that they've become a perennial American institution. It was fun to watch them for three minutes tonight, but why are people paying a hundred bucks (I'm assuming) to go watch them do the same shtick for two hours? It's just the type of act that has diminishing returns for the viewer, I think.

Anyhow, the big news was Rocco's non-elimination. He needs a huge sympathy vote turnout next week to stave off elimination-- that, or he needs to earn such high scores from the judges that he's not near the bottom of the scoring. Otherwise, it seems he'll be the latest to fall victim to the Cloris voting bloc. Dame has some peeps, that's what I'm saying.

I hate to see Misty exit this week because I was so sure that she had a long term game plan that had a chance to pay off. I didn't particularly like her dancing, and her personality was pretty bland, but clearly, no one was working harder. Her routines were very ambitious, and I think she was destined to go further than her current, middle-of-the-pack scores would indicate. A portion of the viewing audience will surely be pining for her partner Maks, too. Specifically, the female portion.

I think everyone will be sad to see Misty go. But some of us will be sadder than others, due to...

The Standings

The surprise ouster was a major shakeup for our standings. Kim was the big winner, losing only 20 points, while Dawn and the Experts were the big losers, dropping a whopping 90 points apiece after predicting that Misty would take it all. Lisa and Dawn dropped a spot each, the Experts slid from first to third, and most everyone else went up a slot as a consequence. Mike reclaimed his spot as pool leader, but he has the slimmest possible lead-- Kim now trails him by only one point.

1st: Mike 987 (-60)
2nd: Kim 986 (-20)
3rd: Experts 970 (-90)
4th: Matt 931 (-50)
5th: Rick 921 (-60)
6th: Lisa 914 (-70)
7th: Carl 908 (-30)
8th: Dawn 883 (-90)
9th: Paul 858 (-70)
