Slugs, bugs, and rot

The war with the slugs seems to have been won, at least for now. Since I first noticed them, I've gone out each non-rainy night with a flashlight and hand-picked them (not such a big chore, seeing as how I have only six plants). Every day, I slug-hunt under the firewood that makes up the garden's border. Over the course of a few days, I went from nabbing dozens of slugs to just one or two per day, and the cabbage is already rebounding nicely.

Some of the leaves on the bell pepper plants are turning brown and wet. I'll have to look up what the possible causes are; some sort of fungus in the rainy wet weather seems likely.

I found a Japanese beetle on the sunflowers today. I killed it, and hope that they won't get out of control.

I transplanted some basil and catnip into the herb garden from the greenhouse the other day, and hope that it will take.
