Survivor Results: Week 3

Another entertaining episode.

The reward challenge was pretty good. I'm usually a sucker for the physical match-ups, but the lagoon wrestling was such a chaotic free for all that I couldn't keep up with the action. It was a bad time to paint everyone's face. On the plus side, Amanda made it through her first challenge in two seasons without being blurred. Fidelity to Ozzy? You decide.

I was pretty shocked that Joel and three ladies (edited: apparently, I mistook Eric for a lady. It must have been the girlishly trim figure and the long blonde curly hair. Thanks to Carl for correcting me) managed to outlast James, Jonathan, and two ladies at holding up the coconuts. The only explanation is that the favorites were holding up far more coconuts; but since we never saw anything letting us know the relative weight of the bags, we'll never know for sure. Maybe James isn't the challenge-monster everyone makes him out to be, even in the strength department.

We didn't see much over at the Fan camp, but it appears that Mikey B. has a new appreciation for the true power dynamic in his tribe. Can meat-headed and pushy Joel maintain control, or will the wily Mikey manage to outlast, outwit, and outplay him?

Cirie finally made her decision, and the fortunes of the couples alliance skyrocketed over at the Favorite's camp. It remains to be seen whether "bossy Cirie" will get as far as "under the radar Cirie" got last time around. She seemed determined to break up a Jonathan/Yau Man final two alliance, and she succeeded in that, at least. I'm sorry to see Yau Man go; when will CBS realize that a personality like his is so much more entertaining than a group of twenty-something pretty faces?

You know who else is sorry to see Yau Man go? You guys:

This Week's Standings:

1st: Matt: 111 (+2)
2nd: Kim: 87 (-1)
3rd: Dawn: 84 (-15)
4th: Carl: 78 (-9)
5th: Paul: 76 (-9)

Carl, Paul and I all got four points apiece for correctly guessing that the Fans would win immunity.

It was a good week to be a Hongoltz-Hetling. Kim and I reaped the rewards of predicting Yau Man out early (I had him out in 16th, Kim had him out in 19th). This padded my lead, and my lovely wife climbs to second place- the highest she's been in two pools.

You remember how I said it was likely that at least one of us would take a big hit by losing a top 5 player? As it turns out, Carl, Dawn, and Paul were all the unlucky hit-takers. Dawn got it the worst, having predicted Yau Man as the third place finisher, and she dropped a big 15 points to third place.

Carl and Paul both had Yau out in fifth place, and both lost 9 points (after the adjustment for immunity pick). The two of them are still battling it out for last place.
